The Deputy Minister branch of Northern Dancer has also done very well under Speightstown, with a grade one winner out of a mare by Deputy Minister himself, and a grade one winner out of a mare by Tejabo, and graded stakes winners out of mares byGhostzapper and his sire, Awesome Again, and Salt Lake, and stakes winners out of mares by Posse and Archers Bay and their sire Silver Deputy (also sire of Badge of Silver and Spring At Last), Touch Gold (sire of Medallist and Mass Media), French Deputy and War Deputy and Deputy Wildcat.
The cross of Speightstown and sons over Medaglia d’Oro mares has been extremely successful with four grade one winners, and could also be tried though mares by Violence, Bolt d’Oro, Fast Anna, Mshawish and Vancouver. Medaglia d’Oro is from the El Prado branch of the Sadler’s Wells line, which is also represented by Kitten’s Joy and Artie Schiller. Crossing back over other branches of Sadler’s Wells should also work well and Speightstown has a grade one winner out of a mare by Sadler’s Wells son, Perfect Soul, and a graded winner out of a mare by another Sadler’s Wells son, Galileo (sire in the U.S. of Cape Blanco and Magician).
The cross of Speightstown and sons with mares from the male line of Sadler’s Wells’ three- quarters brother, Nureyev, through Theatrical (sire of Shakespeare) has done very well, and Nureyev might be brought in through Unusual Heat and his son Acclamation, with other possibilities including Atticus, Fasliyev, Spinning World and Stravinsky.
The broodmare sire of Tamarkuz, Lemon Drop Kid, is out of a three-quarters sister to A.P. Indy, and the dam of Tamarkuz is half-sister to a Travers Stakes winning grandson of A.P. Indy. This would encourage try A.P. Indy line mares, particularly as Speightstown and sons have at least 25 stakes winners on that cross. Eight of these are out of mares by A.P. Indy himself. There are two graded stakes winners out of mares by Bernardini, the sire of the grade winning half-brother to the dam of the dam of Tamarkuz, and who could be brought in through To Honor and Serve and Stay Thirsty (giving inbreeding to the granddam of Tamarkuz).
There are also Speightstown line stakes winners out of mares descending through Malibu Moon, Flatter (sire of Flat Out), Congrats, Dance With Ravens, Jump Start and Pulpit. There are five stakes winners, one grade one, by Speightstown and sons out of mares by Pulpit son Tapit (sire of Constitution, Frosted, Cupid, Tonalist, Trappe Shot, Tapiture and Tapizar), which suggests other Pulpit sons as Sky Mesa, Flashback, Mr. Speaker, Corinthian and Stroll. It would also be possible to introduce A.P. Indy through Mineshaft (sire of Discreetly Mine and Dialed In), Stephen Got Even and Majestic Warrior.
Speightstown and sons have done very well with Caro line mares. From the Cozzene branch there is grade one winner Kimari out of a mare by Cozzene himself, and stakes winners out of mares by Mizzen Mast and Alphabet Soup. From the In Excess branch of Caro, Tamarkuz has stakes winner Lady Lottie out of a mare by Rocky Bar. We can also note out of amares from this line, grade one winner Switzerland out of a mare by Indian Charlie and stakes winners out of mares by Bring the Heat and a Uncle Mo (sire of Nyquist, Outadore and Mo Town). In Excess is also sire of Notional, and Indian Charlie is also sire of Souper Speedy, Adios Charlie, Bwana Charlie and Liaison.
There are six stakes winners on a Speightstown cross with mares from the male line of More Than Ready (sire of Verrazano, Ready’s Image and Daredevil). There are five stakes winners by Speightstown and sons out of mares from the Relaunch line, including through Honour and Glory (sire of Put it Back) and Tiznow (sire of Tiz Wonderful, Colonel John and Gemologist). There are four stakes winners on a cross of Speightstown with mares by Holy Bull and his son, Macho Uno and Flashy Bull, and four out of mares by Maria’s Mon (sire of Super Saver).
